My Favorite Green Smoothie & Juice Recipes + the End of the Smoothie vs. Juice Debate

Fruit is one of the most healing and detoxifying foods you can consume, so it is always the first thing I eat everyday. Smoothies and juices are two of my favorite ways to get a ton of fruit and veg in. A lot of people ask me about the debate between smoothies and juices, but to be honest there is no debate. They are both wonderful additions to everyone's diet.

The main difference between the two is the fiber content. Because cold-pressed juices lack fiber, the nutrients and enzymes contained in those fruits and veggies are more readily available and therefore quickly absorbed by our bodies! Plus without having to digest all of that fiber, you can more easily consume larger amounts of fruits and vegetables that would be difficult to digest if eating them whole. Smoothies on the other hand are wonderful little salads in a cup. They contain all of the soluble and dietary fiber that helps to keep our gut microbiome thriving, and you can include impossible to juice fruits like bananas and mangoes in them.

TLDR; There is no wrong way to consume raw fruits and vegetables. You’re doing your body a favor no matter what form they take on.

My Favorite Green Smoothie

This smoothie is has been my favorite to have as the first thing I break the fast with as of late! It's so nourishing, so hydrating, and best of all, it is full of prebiotic fiber that helps foster a healthy gut microbiome.

In a blender combine:

½ ripe frozen banana

½-1 cup frozen mango

1 cup frozen wild blueberries

1 cup frozen spinach

½ pink lady apple, sliced (peel on) I don't deseed, they blend right in!!!

½ cara cara orange

1 tsp spirulina

1 tbsp chia seeds for an omega-3 appearance

Coconut water until you reach desired consistency

And voila, a delicious nutritious start to your day done in less than 5 minutes :)))

Pro-tip: If you're a get up and go morning person, pre-measure and pack all of the ingredients in the containers that you will drink the smoothie in (aside from the liquid), and throw them in the blender with the liquid in the morning to make your prep time even shorter!
